Certificates of Good Standing
Certificates of Good Standing confirm a business organization, the members of an unincorporated nonprofit association, or the registrant(s) using an assumed name is/are compliant with all legal requirements to retain sole rights to the business name and the authority to conduct business as recorded with the Secretary of State within the state of Vermont on the date the certificate was issued.
Certificates of Good Standing are available immediately upon successful request and payment on the user’s Dashboard under “Certificates & Filing Images.”

A certificate of good standing does not imply that a business is in good standing with the IRS, the Vermont Departments of Labor or Taxes, or the Vermont Attorney General's Consumer Protection Unit; or that it is free and clear of any liens or pending lawsuits.
To generate a Certificate of Good Standing:
- Login to our Online Business Service Center (new users must first create an account)
- From Menu > Filings > Business select Certificate of Good Standing
- Follow prompts to obtain certificate & pay the indicated filing fee by credit card
To verify a Certificate of Good Standing:
- Go to the Certificate Search page
- Enter the "Record Number" and “Certificate Number” number (bottom corner of certificate)
- Confirm your certificate matches the image displayed
If you are given a certificate that does not have a verification number or looks different, it may be a fraud. Please contact our office for verification.
