Physical Therapy Licensure Compact
As of July 1, 2024, Vermont is a member of the Physical Therapy Licensure Compact. The compact is an agreement between member states to improve access to physical therapy services for the public by increasing the mobility of eligible physical therapists and physical therapy assistants to work in multiple states.
Vermont went live with the compact on March 1, 2025, and Vermont licensees are now eligible to join the Physical Therapy Licensure Compact. Current Vermont licensees who are only practicing in Vermont do not need to apply for Compact privileges to continue practicing in Vermont.
You can find more information about practicing under the Compact and the requirements to do so by clicking here.
NOTE: PTs and PTAs granted a full Vermont license before March 1, 2025, do NOT have to complete an FBI background check requirement and are still eligible to participate in the Compact.
New applicants for a Vermont physical therapy or physical therapy assistant license who apply on or after March 1, 2025 will need to complete an FBI background check for their Vermont licensure.
