Newspapers of Record

Through the Vermont State Archives and Records Administration's (VSARA) partnership with Newspapers.com, a subsidiary of Ancestry.com, early Vermont newspapers in the state archives that are no longer subject to copyright restrictions are available online for free access to Vermont residents through a simple zip code and location verification process.

Due to variations in newspaper titles, issues, and dates preserved in the state archives, some newspapers of record are incomplete. Separate from its partnership with VSARA, which is limited to early Vermont newspapers that are no longer subject to copyright, additional titles, issues and years may be made available to Vermont residents at the discretion of Newspapers.com.

VSARA also has an institution subscription to Newspapers.com for Vermont newspapers only that researchers can use, at no charge and without an account, while conducting onsite research in our Reference Room.
