Records About People

Through the Vermont State Archives and Records Administration's (VSARA) partnerships with Ancestry.com and FamilySearch, some Vermont public records of genealogical and family history interest have been digitized and are available online for research purposes. All public records available through these sites are publicly available and not exempt from public inspection or copying under the Vermont Public Records Act.

FamilySearch.org

To research copies of Vermont public records available through FamilySearch, visit FamilySearch.org. Any individual can research and print copies at no cost from this site and FamilySearch accounts are free.

Ancestry.com

Vermont residents can access and research Vermont public records for free at Ancestry.com. To get started, residents can complete a simple zip code and location verification process.

Ancestry requires all users to create a free, no-cost Ancestry.com account to access Vermont public records on their site. We recommend creating your free account and logging into Ancestry.com before verifying zip code and location.

VSARA also has an institution subscription to Ancestry.com that researchers can use, at no charge and without an account, while conducting onsite research in our Reference Room.
